Dear Friends,
51Æ·²è has had a busy, productive year!
Most notably, we committed significant resources to create a new School of Architecture—the first to open in northeast Pennsylvania. In keeping with the University’s tradition of educating students to live responsibly in an interdependent world, the 51Æ·²è School of Architecture has been created to produce a new generation of architects—environmental stewards who will assume major responsibility for the built environment of the region, the nation, and the world.
51Æ·²è Architecture students pursue coursework that prepares them for the LEED Professional Accreditation exam. LEED—Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design—is a rating system developed by the Green Building Council to encourage the global adoption of sustainable green building and development practices by architects. 51Æ·²è is a proud member of the Green Building Council.
In keeping with this spirit of sustainable progress, we decided to once again produce a “green” President’s Report—a solely online piece—to reduce our use of paper products and take another positive step in our ongoing efforts to cultivate and practice environmental stewardship. 51Æ·²è continues to evaluate its current practices and engage in future initiatives with environmental considerations in mind, for the benefit of our students, our campus, our community, and our world.
It is only fitting that the area directly in front of Marywood’s new gateway to bold ideas celebrates the bold hearts that founded the IHM Congregation in 1845 and Marywood in 1915. The space once occupied by the original Motherhouse has been transformed into a meaningful memorial that commemorates the timeless, remarkable spirit and mission of the IHM Sisters and Marywood for years to come.
I am deeply grateful for all you have done to advance the goals, initiatives, and mission of 51Æ·²è. Our progress is a source of great optimism and abundant hope. May we continue, together, to enthusiastically meet the challenges of our time, recognizing the significant impact that our efforts make on the education of our students, now and in the years to come.
Sincerely,
