Mission

The Office of Diversity Efforts at 51Æ·²è ensures that students, faculty, and staff are prepared to function effectively as members of diverse local, national, and global communities. We are committed to promoting diversity awareness and sensitivity to human differences. We value the contributions made by diverse groups, which benefit the personal, academic, and professional growth of members of the Marywood community.

Our institutional commitment is to create opportunities for all members of the Marywood community to interact with understanding, tolerance, and respect for others. We fulfill this commitment by:

  • Managing the Office of Diversity Efforts and the Office for International Students
  • Actively recruiting diverse students and faculty
  • Incorporating diversity into the curriculum of academic programs

51Æ·²è Diversity Efforts

51Æ·²è's Office of Diversity Efforts has two objectives:

  • To promote an appreciation for diversity on campus
  • To assist the local community in addressing diversity concernsand developing intercultural awareness

Programs

The Office of Diversity Efforts organizes eight to ten events each year, from celebrations of various culturesto efforts to address problems like racism and sexism. Our programs range from musical, theatrical, and scholarly presentations to diversity training sessions for area professionals.

Get Involved!

At 51Æ·²è, there are ample opportunities for students to promote diversity. Join one of these clubs to explore the unique customs and traditions of a variety of cultures. They're open to students of all backgrounds.

Partners

These efforts are enhanced by collaborations with regional organizations such as the Lackawanna Bar Association, the African American Arts Alliance, the Lackawanna County Diversity Coalition, and regional colleges, universities, and school districts.
